Nyamira County Votes to be Recounted After Court Order

Nyamira Governor John Nyangarama on Monday suffered a major blow after a High Court ordered vote recount in a petition challenging his win.

The case was filed by former Member of Parliament Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati.

Justice Aaron Makau directed the recount of the votes in 90 out of the 533 polling stations in the county.

The High Court Judge further ordered a scrutiny of the polling stations where errors were recorded when results were being relayed from Form 37A to 37B and 37C.

Justice Makau noted that the recount of votes should be completed by December 17 and results submitted in court to enable him to make the final ruling in the case.

Justifying his ruling, the judge cited various petitions where the scrutiny and recount of votes were granted.

He also clarified that each party must present two agents during the recount process.

“No supporters or party supporters or their sympathizers will be allowed during the scrutiny or recount of the votes,” the Judge conyeyed.

Nonetheless, Governor Nyangarama, through lawyer Erastus Orina, and IEBC through lawyer Gilbert Nyamweta vowed to challenge this ruling.

“We plead to the court to grant the defendants certified copies of this ruling. We want to make an application over the ruling,” Mr Orina stated.
