Daystar University Shut Down

Daystar University has been closed yet again after students continued with a boycott of classes.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Friday, the university's Corporate Affairs Director Damaris Kimilu confirmed the move, noting that it had become inevitable due to the students' protest.

She stated: "We have made the decision to close the university today as we are unable to facilitate classes, due to the students' boycott."

Concerning reports that some student leaders had been suspended, Mrs Kimilu noted that the Dean of Students would issue a comprehensive statement concerning letters sent out to the student leaders.

This is the second time the university has been closed within the span of a month.

Students started a boycott of classes last month as they protested the poor state of facilities at the institution and alleged mismanagement of the university by Vice-Chancellor Timothy Wachira.

Student leaders were categorical that they wanted Mr Wachira ousted from his position.

The Vice-Chancellor, on the other hand, claimed that the students were unwilling to engage the administration in dialogue.

Daystar University Student leaders had earlier accused the administration of trying to divide student leaders along tribal lines as a means of quelling the protest despite their concerns being genuine.

Daystar Athi River President Karwitha Karimi revealed how the Parents Association Chair tried to pit her against her Valley Road Campus counterpart Alloys Otieno.
