NASA MPs Ask President Uhuru Kenyatta to Negotiate on Their Behalf

A section of Members of Parliament allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) have asked the Kenyan government to push for the release of businessman Don Bosco Gichana who has been locked up in Tanzania for almost 6 years.

The MPs led by Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire and politician Hilary Alila stated that Don Bosco was yet to be charged and it was unfortunate that the government had not intervened.

They asked the government to negotiate the same way it managed to secure the release of the four Kenyans who had been jailed in South Sudan.

"It's unfortunate that the Government intervened and ensured the release of the four Kenyans who had been jailed for defrauding the Sudanese Government yet Mr Gichana is languishing in a Tanzanian jail without any fair hearing" stated Mr Alila.

His sentiments were echoed by Mr Onyonka who accused the Kenyan government of not doing enough to intervene in the matter.

"The government needs to bilaterally come out and engage in this matter," he added.

Mr Gichana was first arrested on March 29, 2013, when he went to Tanzania to visit Mr Median Mwale, who had been in detention since August 2011 over various charges, among them money laundering, which is a non-bailable offence.

He was arrested at the Namanga Border point as they made their way back to Kenya after visiting Mwale at the Arusha Central Prison.

Earlier this week, 4 Kenyans who had been jailed for life in South Sudan were freed following talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and South Sudan President Salva Kiir.

Mr Anthony Mwadime, Mr Ravi Ramesh, Mr Boniface Muriuki and Mr Anthony Keya were sentenced to life imprisonment for embezzlement of government funds.
