Duale Blocks MPs From Leaving Kenya

Members of the National Assembly have been blocked from leaving the country on Thursday and Friday after Majority Leader Aden Duale asked Speaker Justin Muturi not to allow any of the legislators make local or foreign trips.

This is mainly to allow them to elect Kenya's representatives to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

They are also supposed to constitute committees and approve a list of commissioners to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

"Speaker and the Clerk, let us make sure we do not allow members to go on local and foreign trips next week so that they have an opportunity to vote.

"The polling station will be the chamber and there are 349 voters," Duale stated on the election of EALA members.

The house is on Wednesday expected to debate three motions.

One, sponsored by Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, seeks the creation of a teaching and referral hospital to cater for specialized care in Mombasa.

Another, sponsored by Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut, seeks the designation and gazettement of specific areas for picketing and demonstrations.

He also wants an Athletics endowment fund that pools resources to support sportsmen and women to be set up.

The lawmakers will in the afternoon consider the appointment of members to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

There has been high-level lobbying as many seek a spot on the powerful commission.
