Kenneth Marende Loses His Position

Former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende on Thursday lost his position as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the electricity company, Kenya Power.

The former Speaker came a distant fourth during the elections to fill three vacancies on the company board of directors.

During the elections conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), The former Speaker garnered 2,323,366 votes behind Mrs Zipporah Josang Kering who had 978,692,508 votes.

Engineer Mahboub Maalim Mohammed emerged the first with 979,253,302 votes ahead of Mr Adil Khawaja who got 978,978,742 votes.

Mr Mwangi Kabacho, who also contested to fill up the three positions, came last with 1.004,052 votes.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke,  Kenya Power company secretary Beatrice Meso stated Mr Mohamed, Mr Khawaja and Mrs Kering would take up the three vacant positions on the board.

"The shareholders have elected the following three persons : Amb Mohammed, Mr Khawaja, and Mrs Kering as directors of the company," she noted.

The elections were held during the 96th Annual General Meeting of the Kenya Power Company held at Safari Park on December 1.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), which was appointed to scrutinize the elections, submitted the results on Thursday.
