Ezra Chiloba Resumes Job at IEBC

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezra Chiloba has resumed his work at the electoral body after 45 days of leave.

Mr Chiloba returned to work on Thursday, January 4, after taking a break days before October 26, 2017, repeat presidential election.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, IEBC's Communications Manager  Andrew Limo confirmed that Mr Chiloba had resumed his job and is expected to go about his usual duties at the commission.

The IEBC boss had announced that he was taking the leave from the electoral body in light of the pressure from the opposition demanding his resignation.

NASA, led by Raila Odinga, on its part made good its threat to boycott the rerun arguing that its demands, including the sacking of Mr Chiloba, were not met.

In a recent interview with Citizen TV regarding the political turmoil that engulfed his career life, Mr Chiloba divulged that he was a sacrificial lamb pointed out by individuals from the Opposition.

“One of the scenarios we build is that one of the political groupings may not be happy with the outcome of the election and they will look for a sacrificial lamb.

"I never doubted that that sacrificial lamb was going to be me. And the reason is, I had been the one midwifing the transition and preparing for the election,” he stated.

He also affirmed that elections conducted by the IEBC were credible and that the commission did its best during the exercise.

"In running the election, I would say there are no regrets. On August 8 we did a good election except that it went to the Supreme Court and was nullified,” Mr Chiloba conveyed.
