High Court Throws Out Petition Against Sonko

High Court Judge Msagha Mbogholi has thrown out a petition challenging the election of  Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The court further ordered the two petitioners to pay a total of Sh5 million to the Governor and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The petitioners had earlier on Tuesday filed an application to withdraw the petition.

This came a day after a witness was allegedly threatened.

Japheth Muroko was scheduled to give evidence in the case, but his lawyer Anthony Oluoch explained his absence, divulging that he was recording a statement at Kilimani Police Station.

Mr Muroko claimed he received threatening text messages.

Governor Sonko, through his lawyers Cecil Miller and Harrison Kinyanjui, maintained that the supposed threats were unsubstantiated, and blamed the petitioners for attempting to derail the proceedings.

“There is lack of credible evidence that these threats have been made. The petitioner must give the court an identifiable cell phone number.

“Those sabotaging the case must be brought to book,” Kinyanjui stated.

Governor Sonko was elected Governor of Nairobi in the August 8, 2017 election, taking over from Evans Kidero.
