Babu Owino Explains Video of Bodyguards Beating Up Parking Attendant

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Monday spoke out regarding a clip that allegedly showed his bodyguards roughing up a parking attendant at Fortis Plaza in Westlands.

The CCTV footage dated January 11 alleged that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator refused to pay the parking fee and later harassed the parking attendant.

The 1 min 30 seconds clip shows the aides alighting a vehicle and attacking the defenseless attendant who tried to question their actions.

Here is the video:

When contacted by Kenyans.co.ke, Babu stanched the allegations that his bodyguards were involved stating that it was a Jubilee propaganda in light of the recent discord in the Nairobi County leadership.

"This is just Jubilee propaganda meant to divert attention away from what is going on between Governor Mike Sonko and the outgoing Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe.

The former Student Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU) leader further claimed that the clip was meant to taint his image because of his intention to go for a higher seat in 2022.

"They want to damage my image because they see me as a threat to becoming the Nairobi Governor in 2022," he told Kenyans.co.ke on the phone.

The first-time legislator has made headlines with his controversial actions.

Earlier last year, he was involved in a fistfight with Starehe MP Charles Ngajua Kanyi at Parliament buildings.

This was after he was arrested and later released for allegedly insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta.

During an Opposition rally in Kangemi, Babu stated: "If Muammar Gaddafi was removed by citizens, if Laurent Gbagbo was removed by citizens, if Yahya Jammmeh was removed by citizens, who are you? Wewe ni mtoto wa mbwa (You are the son of a dog)." The remarks were believed to have been directed at President Kenyatta.
