The Truth about SGR Toilets Meant for Chinese Only [PHOTOS]

A Monday statement has refuted reports doing rounds on social media that there were segregated toilets for Chinese working along the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

Many Kenyans online bashed China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC) for engaging in racial discrimination against black employees.

However taking to their official account, CRBC disputed claims that there was racial discrimination against their employees.

"Contrary to a post doing rounds on social media, we would wish to clarify that all washrooms and sanitation facilities in the SGR camps are clearly marked as "Ladies" or "Gents". We neither use derogatory terms nor advocate for racial segregation among any of our employees.

"We respects the diversity that comes with Kenyans & Chinese nationals working together in the SGR project and we take great pride in fostering a good working relationship as we transform Kenya's infrastructure," CRBC posted on Monday accompanied with pictures of their lavatories.

Earlier in January, Over 300 Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) workers paralyzed transport on the Mai-Mahiu - Narok Road as they protested against poor working conditions.

The workers demanded that the contractor and the Government address their concerns immediately, barely a week after 2 workers in the area died after a section of the railway collapsed.

The protesting employees demanded that a bus be acquired to ferry them to the site instead of the open-top truck they have been using which that they claim has led to them getting chest complications.

“We have complained for long over the poor means of transport, but the Chinese contractor has ignored our pleas, hence the strike," a worker only identified as Wakaba explained.

They called for the government to intervene, claiming that the Chinese contractor had totally ignored them.
