Sonko Introduces Changes in Nairobi CBD

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday announced that he was introducing changes in the Central Business District (CBD).

Sonko stated that he was in the process of distributing garbage containers that would be strategically placed in town and in estates.

He further added that the garbage skips would be changed by workers from the environmental department and not residents.

"We are in the process of distributing garbage skips/containers to strategic areas within the entire Nairobi CBD and Estates.

"The exercise of changing garbage skips to designated areas will be conducted on daily basis by workers from the environmental department and not residents," stated Sonko.

The governor also stated that the new initiative would create job opportunities.

"In a bid to create job opportunities for our youths we will devolve garbage collection to Ward levels where MPs and MCAs will be involved," reiterated Sonko.

This comes a day after he revealed that he may not reconcile with his Deputy Polycarp Igathe as he is capable of running the county alone.

Speaking for the first time on Monday since Mr Igathe tendered his resignation, Sonko remained non-committal on the matter.

“Dialogue over what? Currently, I have a competent team of technocrats, including professors, who I’m working with.

"I have no fear or doubt that my team will fulfil the promises I made to the Nairobi people," stated Sonko in Mombasa.
