High Court Releases Miguna Miguna

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has been released by the High Court on a Sh50,000 cash bail.

Reading his ruling on Tuesday, Justice Luka Kimaru maintained that Miguna should be released immediately and deposit an anticipatory bail.

Judge Kimaru also maintained that the lawyer would be presented before the Kajiado court where he had earlier on been charged with three counts.

The judge also maintained that Miguna's detention by the police was illegal noting that any charges against the NRM lawyer would not hold water in court.

In the morning, lawyers representing Miguna had asked the court to detain DCI boss George Kinoti and Inspector General Joseph Boinnet until they appear in court in person to explain Miguna’s whereabouts.

The two had been ordered by the court to appear in person on Tuesday and bring Miguna along or risk facing contempt of court.

However, the State told the court the two security bosses were attending a national security meeting.

Miguna’s lawyers dismissed the claim, noting the term ‘national security’ was abused by state agents.

More than 50 lawyers wore purple ribbons in the chamber in solidarity with Miguna and faulted the government for detaining the NRM member and ignoring court orders.

The Law Society of Kenya had also asked to be enjoined in the case as an interested party.
