Why ODM Woman Rep Wants CS Nominee Rashid Achesa Approved

Busia Woman Representative, Florence Mwikali Mutua, has jumped to the defense of the Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee for Sports and Heritage Rashid Achesa Mohammed after sources disclosed that his academic credentials were wanting.

According to the ODM affiliated Representative, there have been other excellent leaders who did not necessarily have a strong educational background.

"We have had and have many uneducated people in various sectors of our society who excelled and excel to date," Ms Mutua expressed.

In her opinion, Achesa should be given a chance to prove his capacity to deliver and should not be judged by merely his academic qualifications.

"Rashid is not the first or the last. Let him be given the chance to work he may just excel being a 'hands on' person," she added.

Ms Mutua termed the nomination of the businessman by President Uhuru Kenyatta as a golden chance for the nominee.

The fate of Achesa has been hanging on the balance after it emerged that the educational background he presented to the Parliamentary Appointments Committee appeared sketchy and later it emerged that he might be a class seven dropout.

This saw a section of Jubilee MPs oppose the forwarding of his name to Parliament for approval. During Achesa's vetting, some questions were framed in Swahili, unlike other candidates who were interviewed in English.

We have had & have many uneducated people in various sectors of our society who excelled and excel to date. Rashid is not the first or the last. Let him be given the chance to work he may just excel being a “hands on” person. Jubilee has given him the golden chance. Why not? https://t.co/iu9Ga9WWSK

In order to determine the suitability for CS appointment, the Parliamentary Appointments Committee scrutinizes the academic qualifications, integrity, conduct and track record of the nominees.

The Opposition MPs, led by National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi, have kept off the vetting process indicating that they did not recognize the legitimacy of Kenyatta's Presidency.
