The Millions of Calls Kenyan Women Are Blocking - Truecaller Reveals

Popular mobile identity app, Truecaller, has revealed how Kenyans are using the service to block millions of calls every month.

The company's Director of Partnerships, Africa, Zakaria Abdulkadir, revealed that 4.4 million calls are blocked every month, with women reporting 11 percent more unwanted calls than men.

Kenya ranks 5th in the world in terms of Truecaller users, with 6 million people signed up for the service.

This is what informed the company's decision to open a regional office in Nairobi, from which they will run their operations in other African countries such as Nigeria and South Africa.

Truecaller further revealed that in Kenya, they handle 14 million spam messages every month, with 91 percent of these being scams.

4 percent of the messages are considered nuisances while 5 percent come from financial services.

“Kenya is the top African market for the app, top five globally. 6 million active users are in Kenya, and 4.4million calls are blocked per month. Women report 11 percent more unwanted calls than men,” Abdikadir stated.

He further explained that venturing into Kenya was part of Truecaller's plan to introduce new services to the African market.

The company promised to engage local start-ups in their operations, noting that Kenya would play a key role in Truecaller's growth going forward.

The application has 50 million users in Africa and over 250 million users globally.
