ODM Names Task Force to Explain 2017 Performance, Strategize For Future Polls

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has on Thursday named a five-man task force to review the party's performance in the 2017 General Election and come up with strategies to ensure greater success in future polls.

The team is expected to deliver its report to the party's National Executive Council (NEC) in 90 days.

"The specific Terms of Reference (ToRs) of the Task Force are to...dig deep and provide an honest review of the 2017 Election cycle and a Path forward for ODM to ensure success in winning more seats in future elections," a statement from Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna read in part.

The team is made up of Catherine Mumma, Larry Gumba, Irshad Sumra, Alfelt Gunda and Tony Moturi.

The task force was formed after a meeting of the party's National Governing Council (NGC) on February 23 resolved to put it in place.

It is expected to review ODM's performance in the 2007, 2013 and 2017 elections and come up with recommendations on the party's procedures and processes.

This includes looking into nomination and election rules, nomination structures, review of party ideology, electoral platforms and coalition building and management.

Sifuna announced that, among other things, the team would review ODM's engagement with alliances and coalitions, a move that could ruffle feathers in the National Super Alliance (NASA).

The coalition has appeared to be rapidly disintegrating in recent weeks, with affiliate parties ODM, Wiper, ANC and Ford-K looking more likely to go their own way.

This followed the fall-out that came after NASA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula missed the January 30 swearing-in of Raila Odinga as the People's President at Uhuru Park.
