Githu Muigai Fails to Testify in Anglo-Leasing Case

Outgoing Attorney General, Githu Muigai, and Deputy Solicitor General, Muthoni Kimani, on Tuesday, snubbed a court hearing on the Anglo leasing case.

The two Government officials failed to testify in the case after defense lawyer Paul Nyamodi applied to have the case adjourned.

Mr Nyamodi told the Court that the prosecution served them with the documents very late and therefore, they needed more to time to prepare their submissions.

Senior Magistrate Martha Mutuku also faulted the prosecution for breaching the law by not supplying the documents within the stipulated time.

During the hearing, Magistrate Mutuku directed the prosecution to serve the defence all the documents they will need to prepare for the Anglo-leasing case.

In the case, the senior officials alongside other businessmen face charges related to the multi-billion-shilling tenders which the prosecution claim are irregular.

The suspects are charged with conspiracy to defraud the government of Sh7.4 Billion, through a suppliers financing agreement, for the computerisation of security, law and order systems.

The senior officials include former Finance Minister the late David Mwiraria, three former PSs; Joseph Magari, Dave Mwangi and David Onyonka.

Businessmen Deepak, Rashmi and Chemanlal Kamani were also put on the spot over the scandal.
