The government of Cuba has unveiled a monument in honour of Kenya's founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
Cuba recognized the role Mzee Kenyatta played in African and Caribbean liberation movement during the colonial times.
The country's leadership noted that the unveiling of the Bust at the Park of African Heroes in Havana was significant as it goes a long way in demonstrating the rich history Kenya and Cuba have in terms of Liberation struggles.

The Heroes Park also features monuments of other prominent African leaders including Kwame Nkrumah, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Patrice Lumumba, and Samora Machel.
The unveiling of the bust of the founding father brings the monuments of African Heroes on display at the Park to 17.
During the unveiling of the monument, Uhuru stated: “Africa will forever cherish its relationship with Cuba. Together we will continue to forge mutually beneficial partnerships for the prosperity of our peoples and nations."
The President further thanked the Cubans "for their selfless and persistent solidarity with the African people."
He further asserted that Africa and the African people would forever be grateful to Cuba as they have been the biggest benefactors of Cuba’s revolutionary stance.
“It is worth noting that during the Cuban revolutionary war, Fidel Castro named one of the Brigades the ‘Mau Mau’ in honour of the freedom fighters in Kenya,” President Kenyatta stated.
Cuba's Culture Minister Abel Prieto termed the late Head of State as an icon whose example of heroism inspired many to take up arms against the colonial masters.
“Kenya’s rich liberation struggle story became a big inspiration to the Cubans resistance against imperialism,” Prieto concluded.
