Why Ruto Will Be President in 2022 - Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has revealed why Deputy President William Ruto is likely to emerge the winner if he vies in the 2022 presidential elections.

Speaking to the Standard, he opined that the next elections are likely to favour DP Ruto if the current electoral injustices are not resolved.

"William Ruto will be the president if we don’t sort out this issue now," the Senator stated in reference to electoral reforms.

On the succession of NASA leader Raila Odinga in NASA coalition, the vocal senator indicated: "We need to clear the electoral mess committed last year before we think of 2022."

He further shed doubt on the possibility of NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi clinching the presidency in the next general elections.

"Mudavadi cannot be president unless the electoral injustices previously committed are dealt with," he asserted.

His sentiments came a few hours before the High Court declared some sections of the Elections Act amendments made last year unconstitutional.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Odinga had promised to address the perennial issue of electoral injustice in a bid to "build bridges to a new Kenyan nation."

However, lack of significant progress on the issues saw Busia Senator Amos Wako write an open letter on Thursday reminding the two leaders of their commitment to Kenyans during the historic handshake at Harambee House.

"The critical issues raised in your statement are in danger of being lost in the dust created," the letter by Senator Wako expressed concern in part.
