Smokin Wanjala Awarded Honorary Doctorate Degree by Commonwealth University, London

Supreme Court of Kenya (SCOK) Judge Smokin Wanjala was on Thursday awarded an honorary Doctorate degree by Commonwealth University, London. 

During a graduation ceremony, the judge, together with Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan, was awarded in recognition of their consistent service to humanity and leadership.

Justice Wanjala is noted to have been actively involved in the struggle for Constitutional Reform in Kenya especially during his time in Civil Society in the 1990s.

He was one of the four founder members of the Centre for Law and Research International (CLARION) where they pioneered Civic Education in the Country.

According to the University, Mr Keynan has been in parliament for the last 20 years and has since been instrumental in the development of Wajir West and Eldas constituency.

Moreover, Keynan was the only MP in Wajir County, who successfully defended his set in the August 8, 2017, general election. 

The lawmaker was Wajir West MP for 10 years before moving to Eldas Constituency in 2013 where he launched a marshal plan making his region a reference hub for development in northern Kenya. 

In 2012, Wajir West was ranked the best constituency based on the management of the National Government Constituency Development Fund.

He has also been applauded among the MPs who promote education through scholarship programmes for the needy, gifted and brilliant learners.

Dr Keynan is the holder of two Masters degrees; Public Administration from Moi University, and International Relations and Diplomacy from Kenyatta University.

He is currently a member of Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, Global Action and an executive committee member of the Commonwealth Association of Accounts Committee.
