Supreme Court Judge Smokin Wanjala Explains Why He Missed Full Supreme Court Verdict

Supreme Court Judge Smokin Wanjala has spoken on why he missed the delivery of the detailed judgement on nullification of the August presidential petition.

Speaking during an interview with the Daily Nation, Justice Wanjala on Sunday revealed that he had accompanied his daughter to the City University of London where she was being admitted to study Actuarial Science.

The Judge revealed that the girl had been a student at Rusinga schools in Nairobi.

In response to the innuendos that had been created around his absence, Justice Wanjala stated, "Ours is a sick society where all sorts of idlers and busybodies create and feed rubbish to an ever gullible public.”

"This is a trip that was planned long before the general elections," he added.

Justice Mohammed Ibrahim was also absent from the bench since he was ill when the other Judges submitted their verdict.

Earlier reports had however indicated that the judge had travelled to London to attend a graduation ceremony.

While explaining Justice Wanjala's absence, Chief Justice David Maraga stated that the Judge had signed the majority judgment before leaving the country.

Justice Wanjala was one of the four judges, who nullified the August 8 presidential election others being CJ Maraga, Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu and Justice Isaac Lenaola.
