The Billboard Ezekiel Mutua Wants Pulled Down Within 24 Hours

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua on Wednesday ordered the pulling down of a billboard that he termed unfit for public display.

Mutua, a self-declared Kenya's moral police further indicated that the language used on the billboard was inappropriate, and the implied message adult in nature.

In this consideration, Mutua declared the billboard not suitable for public exhibition or display.

Although the billboard shows what may be a typical football accident scene, the wording on the billboard indicates a clear sensualization.

Visiting the scene where the billboard is erected, a KFCB official gave GA Insurance, which is said to have sponsored it, a notice to pull it down within 24 hours beginning Wednesday morning.

"Were it not for the weather condition, we would have requested them to pull it down immediately," the official stated.

He further added that KFCB is charged with the responsibility to authorize the display of content in public.

In this case, KFCB was not consulted before the billboard was put up which would have led to appropriate advice on the acceptable content.

Mutua had earlier on warned the Advertisers to avoid sensual or foul language adding that adverts don't have to be obscene, sexualised or have adult-language to sell.

"Adverts containing obscene images or language should not be erected in public places," Mutua stated.
