Sarit Center Mall Fire Escalates

A fire that broke out at Sarit Center on Friday morning has continued to spread inside the mall.

According to photos and videos from the scene, the huge smoke which was seen billowing from the roof of the building at the beginning has now intensified.

In a statement issued by the management earlier stated that the fire had been contained.

"We would like to inform all our tenants and shoppers that there was a small fire in one of our outlets on the ground floor which has now been contained by Sarit Centre security, staff and the Nairobi County Fire Department. No injuries reported,” the mall management noted.

However, it has been noted that the fire which had gutted a section of the ground floor has now spread to the second.

The mall's management has also noted that the BM Security, the agency in charge of safety at the mall, with the help of the fire brigade, is trying to contain the growing inferno.

The fire is claimed to have started at a printer shop caused by a circuit connection, however, no official statement has been made on the cause of the fire yet.

Recent reports have also indicated that the fire engines which were dispatched to the sight to contain the fire have run out of the water.

Motorists and shoppers have been urged to stay away until security teams manage the situation.

Sarit Centre, that was built in 1983, is claimed to have recently been renovated at a cost of Ksh4 billion, according to local dailies.
