Court Acquits Neno Evangelism Apostle James Ng'ang'a of Mercy Njeri's Murder

James Ng'ang'a of Neno Evangelism Centre was on Friday acquitted of the murder of one Mercy Njeri along the Naivasha-Nakuru highway.

The preacher's car was in July 2015 involved in a car accident that ended the life of Ms Njeri and seriously injured her husband.

Some claims suggested that a red Range Rover belonging to Ng'ang'a collided with a Nissan March vehicle the couple was travelling in with blame falling on the preacher who some accused of having been driving on the wrong side of the road.

Chief Magistrate Godfrey Oduor ruled that Ng'ang'a, driver Simon Kuria and police officers Christopher Nzioka and Patrick Baya had " no case to answer" in the matter.

The two police officers had been charged with giving false witness in the matter.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) immediately announced that it would file an appeal to the decision at the High Court.

Reacting to the ruling, the family's lawyer Kariuki Wanjiri lamented that the case had taken too long to get to a conclusion.

"The ruling took a long time. The case was adjourned several times as we waited for it.

"We were so shocked to hear that they don't have a case to answer. We will appeal after the full ruling," he stated.

The widower, Martin Mbugua, was present at the courtroom when the ruling was made could not comment at the time and left his father Peter Ndung'u to speak on behalf of the family.

"Does acquitting all the accused persons mean my children faked the accident in which my daughter-in-law died?" Mr Ndung'u posed.
