Bodaboda Rider Opens Fire Critically Injuring Policeman

A bodaboda rider on Friday shot at an officer who was manning a roadblock in Kilifi Town.

The officer was shot in the chest at close range but managed to shoot back and injured the attacker who fled, leaving his motorcycle on the ground.

According to Coast Regional Commander Noah Mwavanda, the suspect was arrested hours later when he sought treatment in a government hospital.

"We managed to pursue the assailant and there is a suspect who has been arrested with gunshot wounds and is being treated in Malindi hospital.

"We hope that by the end of the day we shall be able to bring this man to book, the man is in our custody," the commander told the Standard.

He further divulged that they are investigating the shooting of the Administration Officer as dozens of youth were rounded up across the town as police hunted down more suspects.

Doctors at Kilifi County Hospital extracted two bullets from the wounded officer before he was flown to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

In Kakamega, another Administration Police Officer is also nursing injuries at the County Referral Hospital after he was attacked by the public during a crackdown on illicit brews.

According to a resident, the youth who attacked the officer fled after the victim identified himself as a police officer.

Kakamega Assistant AP Commander Steve Oloo said the officers were attacked while on patrol. He said they are investigating the matter.
