Raila Odinga Meets Building Bridges Unity Team

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Thursday afternoon met with the members appointed to be in the Building Bridges Committee tasked with the implementation of the unity pact between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Posting on his social media platforms, Mr Odinga noted: "I was glad to grace the function and also had a chance to speak one on one with the individual team members.

"I also addressed them on the expectations that I together with H.E Uhuru Kenyatta have for the team as they address the nine-point agenda of the MOU," added the ODM leader.

The Opposition leader also stated that he was able to familiarise the team with the initiative's secretaries.

Mr Odinga exclaimed: "The 14-member team of advisors of the Building Bridges Initiative, today held a familiarization lunch hosted by the joint secretaries of the of the Initiative, Ambassador Martin Kimani, and Mr. Paul Mwangi.

"The team will proceed for a retreat in the coming days to agree on a work plan and a program for their activities as they await their official inauguration," the former Prime Minister noted.

The team was reported to be heading for at least a three-day retreat where they will be inducted in sessions facilitated by the Building Bridges Initiative secretariat Amb Martin Kimani and lawyer Paul Mwangi, who will represent the President and the ODM leader respectively. 

The team is expected to advise Kenyatta and Odinga on the nine issues on which the initiative is anchored on. 

The nine-pillars include ethnic antagonism and competition, lack of national ethos, inclusivity of all communities in the national leadership, and enhancement of devolution. 

Also, they will look into the scourge of divisive elections, national safety and security, corruption, shared prosperities among all communities and responsibilities and rights.
