Governor Mike Sonko Apologises for Poor Service Delivery

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Sunday issued a rare apology for poor service delivery to the residents of the county.

During an interview with Citizen TV, Sonko claimed that there was a plot to discredit him and create a perception that he was under siege.

"I admit that garbage collection is a menace. I am telling Nairobi that Sonko wants to fulfil his pledges. I want to benchmark with Dubai and develop a waste management system in the country," he stated.

The Nairobi governor further conveyed that most of the challenges he was facing in the county were inherited from the previous regimes.

He welcomed criticism adding that it would help him focus on which issues he should prioritise in his term as governor.

Sonko, however, stated that there were cartels in the county that were opposing him.

"I am not under siege. People who have been fighting me have created that perception. There is a coalition of cartels created to fight me so that Nairobians are not seeing what I am doing on the ground.

"There are lawyers who have represented Nairobi county but were paid exorbitant fees for just a mention in court. We went to court to reverse that transaction so the lawyer's fee is not ridiculously high," he explained.

Without mentioning names, Sonko urged all those fighting him to work with him instead to deliver services to Nairobians.

"All those fighting me, why don’t you come and work with me? If the President is working with me, who are you? I am happy the President is supporting me," he stated.
