Wiper Party Re-branding, Moving Offices from Lavington

Wiper party deputy Secretary-General Peter Mathuki has conveyed the Opposition party's plans to restructure and re-brand following the March 9 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, Mr Mathuki stated that the handshake had changed the political climate and the Wiper party intended to align with the new political climate.

"The handshake has introduced a new dynamic in politics, it is no longer about political parties it is now about regions.

"Wiper is focussed on establishing strategic alliances in the various regions so that we have more impact nationally. We want to see a time when we have elected officials at every level and in all parts of the country," he stated.

The Wiper official, commenting on the pending merger between Ford-Kenya and Amani National Congress (ANC), expressed support for the two leaders - Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.

"Mudavadi and Wetangula are right to do what they are doing because their region requires being united to build a strong base. Wiper does not have the same challenge because we have a strong base and that is why we need to form new alliances," he explained.

Mr Mathuki had on Wednesday stated: "We have decided as a party and mandated our leader to reach out to like-minded political parties and leaders to build national political alliances for the future. It is inevitable.

"The party has been actively engaging others, and partners outside the glare of the media, and very soon, the outcome of these deliberate conversations will come to light," he revealed.

The deputy secretary-general added that the party has grown in numbers and as such, they would also be moving their headquarters from the Lavington premises.

He conveyed that the new One Kenya Movement (OKM) party to replace Wiper would be people-oriented further noting the electorate would recommend leaders to work with Kalonzo Musyoka.
