3 Siblings Drown in Meru County

A family in Thubuku Village in Tigania East, Meru county is mourning the loss of three of their children aged 4,7 and 10 who drowned over the weekend in a stagnant pool of water.

The three are believed to have been playing near the pool which they had assumed to be shallow when the incident occurred.

The bodies of the youngest two were recovered on Sunday, leading the parents to think that their eldest had survived.

Their hopes were however quashed when as The Nation reports, the body of the eldest was recovered on Monday morning floating on the pool of water.

Officials say that such gulleys are formed as a result of the hilly terrain in the region. Water flows from the hills forming pools of water. They have advised parents to keep a keen watch on where their children play, especially during the rainy season.
