Three suspects who were being accused of carrying out a grenade attack at Nairobi's Gikomba market in 2014 have been set free.
The suspects were on Thursday acquitted of all charges after the presiding judge blamed police officers for shoddy investigations leading to lack of evidence.
The three had been charged with the offence of carrying out the attack which led to the death of 10 people with close to 70 others suffering serious injuries.
In the May 2014 attack, two grenades separately went off in the busy market with one taking place near a minibus station.
Moments later, a second blast was experienced in the larger market area catching dozens of shoppers and business people by surprise.
This came during a period when the country was faced with similar attacks on populated areas especially in public service vehicles leaving several dead, many injured and property worth millions destroyed.
Previously, the judiciary has on many instances blamed the prosecution of presenting weak evidence in high-profile cases leading to their collapse.
During his interview, incumbent Chief Justice David Maraga cited the same as one of the hindrances to delivering justice admitting that he was once forced to free murder suspects due to poor investigations.
