Manhunt in Laikipia for Teacher Who Raped Student

Police in Laikipia are hunting for a male teacher who allegedly defiled a Class Eight pupil at Slopes View Academy in Naro Moru.

According to the police report the rape took place in the wee hours of June 2, when the pupil was preparing to attend morning preps.

The teacher-on-duty met the minor while on her way to the classroom and asked her to return to the dormitory, where he followed and allegedly raped her.

The girl, however, did not report the incident until Sunday, when teachers called her mother because the girl was weeping uncontrollably.

In the presence of her mother and teachers, the girl narrated how she was defiled by the suspect.

The suspect, who was in the staff room at the time, upon learning that the minor had told other teachers and her mother of the incident fled the school by jumping over the school fence.

“We have recorded a statement with the police. What I want is justice for my daughter. May the teacher be arrested and charged in court,” the girl's mother stated.

The pupil was rushed to a hospital, where pregnancy and STI tests were done and turned negative.

Police noted that since the pupil had already showered by the time she was taken to the hospital there was no key evidence.

Confirming the incident, Narumoru police boss Job Lesikinwa maintained that police had launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Slopes View Academy head teacher Elizabeth Wamuyu Muthui stated that until Sunday, she wasn’t aware of the incident and pledged to cooperate with police as they investigate the incident.

The incident comes barely days after a student was raped at Moi Girls' High School Nairobi and police are still conducting investigations on who the culprit was.
