CS Fred Matiangi Wants Kenyans To Build Facilities For Public Servants

Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has called on Kenyans to embrace a community-based approach to help improve the welfare of members of the National Police Service.

According to the CS, corporates and community groups should not just concentrate on complaining about how police officers work and live under deplorable conditions.

He added that all over the world, governments are not able to fully provide everything that its public servants require. He humorously asked Kenyans to generously come out to donate and offer their support to government institutions just like they did for religious groups.

“I plead with Kenyan professionals and business people..Let us go beyond the talk. We do not help our security sector by talking about how bad the police of chiefs are. Why don’t you make your contribution to better the lives of these good people?

“There is no government in the world that has enough resources to offer everything their respective public service requires. Most of the countries and communities we admire always benefit from corporate activity and community service,” noted Matiang'i.

He spoke on Thursday during the handover of 29 vehicles donated to the National Police Service by the Mount Kenya Foundation.

He criticised the public for always seeking to be involved in policy-making by only offering their opinions, challenging them to take up “public participation from the side of doing things.”

To set the ball rolling, the CS informed the Inspector General of Police to let him use a similar approach in putting up a one of a kind police station near his rural home in Nyamira County.

Matiang'i intends to approach his colleagues and locals to help raise funds to build the police station and residential units for the officers.
