Raila Odinga Plans ODM Meeting to Tame Breakaways

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is set to hold a joint meeting with the national executive council and its parliamentary group in a bid to put their warring house in order.

The party will make deliberations on action to be taken on elected ODM leaders that have backed DP William Ruto at the coast in defying the secretary general’s directive.

Also in the meeting’s agenda is how to tackle uncertainties on the party’s future following the March handshake and to shed light on how Mr Odinga intends to work with the ruling party.

ODM national treasurer Timothy Bosire confirmed to local dailies that the party leader called for the meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

The forum also to be attended by all ODM governors will help members get clarification on whether Mr Odinga still intends to go for the presidency in future.

ODM National Chairman John Mbadi warns that the party intends to remove non performing MPs from house watchdog committees at a time the opposition side has lost a host of MPs to the ruling party.

“Some of our members are not taking their roles seriously. We are watching keenly and those who will not live up to the expectations will be removed from committees,” warns the Suba South MP reaffirming that the party has not been weakened.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, who is expected back in the country on Wednesday, is reportedly planning to kickstart meet-members tours to stamp ODM firmly in its place. Joho has, however, lost close allies to the DP’s camp such as Jomvu MP Talib Badi.

Governor Joho’s Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi and Kwale governor Salim Mvurya have also welcomed the deputy presidents charm offensive at the Coast.

The DP recently toured the region and delivered several goodies including initiating construction of a 70 Km road for Sh3.2 Billion.

Coast parliamentary group chairman Suleiman Dori recently resigned from the ODM national executive  committee.

Dori, together with vocal Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, have shifted allegiance to work with DP Ruto who rivals claim is campaigning for 2022 in the pretext of being on duty.
