Matatu Crashes Along Haile Selassie Avenue in Nairobi

15 people have been hospitalised after a matatu hit a guardrail along Haile Sellasie Avenue in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).

The 14-seater matatu is reported to have been speeding when its brakes failed causing it to ram into the rails near Agip House.

Emergency services responded to the accident vacating the severely injured to Kenyatta hospital.

The incident resulted in heavy traffic in the area as police coordinated with St John ambulance medics to transport the injured.

Others who sustained minor injuries were treated at the scene and released.

Later in the day, at least 18 people were injured at Lari along Nairobi-Nakuru highway in an incident involving a matatu and a Landcruiser.

Casualties were evacuated to Lari Level 4 and Kijabe Mission Hospitals by St John Ambulance Lari Rescue team.

The institution urged all motorists to observe road safety in preparation for the holiday set on Friday.

On Wednesday, bodaboda riders protested along University way where they spilt oil near globe roundabout.

The protest led to multiple accidents as cars skid on the oil. However, no casualties were reported.

The county dispatched a crew to clean up the oil on the road.

According to reports, the bodaboda riders were protesting their eviction from the CBD.

Earlier in the week, 60 riders were arrested in a crackdown following an announcement by the county government that the bodaboda would only access Kirinyaga Road, University Way, Uhuru Highway, Hailesellasie Avenue and Racecourse Road.
