Education CS Amina Mohamed Orders Creation of Careers Office in All Kenyan Universities

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed on Thursday ordered all Universities to establish a career service office in their institutions.

CS Mohamed directed that the universities begin the process of the creation of the special office in July 2018.

She further emphasised that it will be mandatory for the process to be complete by the end of the year.

"The institutions will have to use its own budget to set up the offices and where necessary we will provide additional resources," she stated.

Citing the alarming rate of unemployment in the country, the Education boss observed that out of the millions of graduates from universities every year, only one out of five got into formal employment.

She outlined that the career service office would serve as a forum for students to get helpful advice in academics.

The advice will cover such areas as developing educational plans consistent with their life goals and providing students with accurate information about academic progression and degree requirements.

CS Mohamed reiterated that guidance will allow students to properly plan their progress and offer assistance to students in understanding academic policies and procedures for academic success.

The CS also declared a ban on visiting days and any other public events in schools beginning June 25 to allow candidates to focus on the end of year Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) national exams.

"Principals must efficiently and effectively administer the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination due in a few months. Continue preparing candidates adequately to improve the results of this year’s examinations," she directed.
