Hope For Jobless Kenyans As Employment Bill is Passed

The National Youth Employment Bill has been significantly altered to accommodate all unemployed persons in Kenya.

Parliament passed the ammended bill that would provide various opportunities for job seekers in Kenya. Changes made to the bill were spear-headed by the Labour and Social Welfare Committee, to allow the bill embrace all unemployed persons not just the youth.

If the bill is assented, a National Employment Authority will be formed and have offices in every County, in order to counsel the National and County Governments on employment policies. The authority shall be the first person to be consulted by the government if job vacancies emerge.

Nominated Member of Parliament Johnson Sakaja who sponsored the bill, said he was content with the changes that were made to the motion, adding that the Bill would provide opportunities that would lead to employment including internships and attachments.

“Once this Bill becomes law, all public entities will be required to provide internship and employment opportunities,” said Mr Sakaja.

The National Employment Authority headed by a Director-General will be required to share all job vacancies advertised and provide proper counseling to the unemployed.
