Kenyans were on Thursday left frustrated after Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Managing Director Charles Ongwae claimed that Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i was wrong about mercury found in sugar.

The devastating news sent netizens on a Twitter rant that eventually settled on two conclusions. Either the whole contraband sugar scandal is a hoax or a final test by the government chemists would settle the controversy.

A controversial letter emerged, allegedly written by Mr Ongwae to the Trade CS Adan Mohamed admitting to the presence of mercury in the contraband sugar.

CS Adan later came out to dismiss the letter as a fake.
