Kenya is seeking to host the 2020 IAAF World Under-20 Championships in Nairobi. The government will be sending a delegation to Argentina to meet the IAAF council.
The delegation will be spearheaded by Cabinet Secretary for Sports Rashid Echesa and Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei.
The committee is expected to arrive in Argentina by July 26-27 when the council meeting takes place in the capital of Buenos Aires.

There are, however, conditions that will need to be met before IAAF agrees to Kenya’s bidding.
Kenya will be required to guarantee that there will be government funding and ensure that there’s also an anti-doping system in place. Kenya will also be expected to provide equipment for participating athletes.
“The IAAF Council will offer direction on the status of our bid and that will inform what we require to successfully stage the competition,” stated Athletics Kenya Youth Development committee head, Barnaba Korir.
It will not be the first time that Kenya will host the IAAF Championships. In 2017, Kenya broke the record for the highest attendance at the IAAF World U-18 Championships.
It cost Kenya over $20 million which comes close to Ksh1 billion to host the 2017 event in July last year. These are the expenses the country will expect to incur if the bid is won.
Kenya is also bidding to host one of the IAAF Diamond League legs of the track field sport. The government would be required to cater to the accommodation of the runners and make sure they organize everything.
The government will be required to award the winners cash prizes amounting to a little over $420,000 which comes to about Ksh40 million.
