Former NMG CEO Linus Gitahi Appointed to Chair Brand Kenya Board

Former Nation Media Group CEO Linus Gitahi has been appointed to chair Brand Kenya Board for a three-year term.

Through its Twitter account, the Brand Kenya Board announced that Gitahi was joining their team replacing businessman Chris Kirubi.

Brand Kenya was faced by management issues and in May suspended its CEO Mary Luseka for allegedly embezzling millions of shillings through inflated tenders.

The parastatal later replaced Luseka with Floice Mukabana in an acting capacity.

In his new role, Gitahi will now lead the campaign to position Kenya optimally in terms of investment, creditworthiness, tourism and international relations.

Gitahi's appointment was initially made when President Uhuru Kenyatta shuffled several heads of state corporations.

The Brand Kenya Board is tasked with the responsibility of identifying and refining the key attributes of Kenya, that contribute positively to the image and reputation of the Nation.

In March 2018, the Board launched an initiative dubbed “Kenya Fashion Fridays Challenge” whose aim was to rally Kenyans to embrace home brands in the fashion industry.

All Kenyans were called upon to wear Kenyan brands, designed and produced by locals, every Friday, as a break away from the official corporate attires.

This call to action was anchored towards realizing Kenya’s Big Four Agenda, as the country shifted to focus on transforming the manufacturing sector with leather and textiles industry having been identified as the number one priority due to its Labor intensive nature and therefore its ability to create many jobs for Kenyans.
