Ksh 10,000 Circulating in Parliament Was for Wedding Contributions - MPs

Bribery allegations in Parliament took a new turn after legislators revealed the source of Ksh10,000 circulating in the National Assembly.

Endebess legislator Robert Pukose mentioned that the MPs seen with wads of cash before a debate on the sugar probe report last week were contributing to Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno’s wedding.

Pukose, Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi and Pokot South MP David Pkosin all denied bribing MPs to shoot down the contraband sugar report.

The Endebess MP revealed that he collected Sh10,000 from 29 legislators for the wedding happening on Saturday at Emurua Dikirr Secondary School, Transmara.

“There have been misrepresentations about the Sh10,000 we were giving. MPs were contributing to MP Ng’eno’s wedding. It is unfortunate many people were going around saying that was bribery,” Pukose told the Star.

He intimated that the group met briefly at the House dining hall on Thursday afternoon to give their gratuity before the debate on the sugar report began.

“I gave contributions to the honourable Hillary Kosgei at the dining hall. I did not receive bribes and I did not give bribes for the sugar report,” he mentioned.

“MPs who were blackmailing colleagues to support the report are the ones who have come up with the bribery claims,” Pukose remarked.

Ng'eno confirmed he has a wedding this weekend in his rural home and divulged he was aware of the contributions.

“My friends in Parliament formed a WhatsApp group and have been fundraising to support me and this has been a private exercise. They are yet to hand over their contributions and some have even pledged support in kind,” the Emurua Dikirr MP stated.
