Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has released his book, "From The Ashes I Soar," which tells the story of his life, from his humble beginnings to becoming a national politician.
Salasya launched the book on Saturday, August 2, at the KICC in Nairobi. The event was attended by both politicians and members of the public.
In his book, Salasya writes about growing up in Western Kenya and his journey to becoming one of the country's youngest Members of Parliament.
"From ashes, I soar! Join me as we celebrate the launch of my book, a journey of resilience and triumph," Salasya said.
In his speech, Salaysa described the book as a story of overcoming challenges. He explained that the book captures his humble beginnings, his struggles, and the challenges he faced before rising to become the youngest MP in the 13th Parliament.
Salasya said his book aims to demonstrate that coming from a humble background does not hinder one from achieving greatness.
“This book is not just about me, it is about every young Kenyan with a dream and the determination to succeed, no matter the odds,” he said.
The lawmaker recalled growing up in a modest home that lacked windows and proper ventilation, often sleeping on the floor because he didn’t own a bed.
“This was our home just two years ago. It belongs to my mother and my younger twin siblings, the lastborns. That’s where they used to sleep,” he shared.
“My small corner didn’t even have a window, and I didn’t have a bed. I used to sleep on the floor. True story,” a passage from the book reads.
Several leaders have since congratulated him, including Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, who praised Salasya’s resilience and growth in a social media post.
"Congratulations, my political son Peter Salasya, on the launch of your book, ‘From the Ashes I Soar’. May you always rise from the ashes like the proverbial phoenix and soar high as you navigate the treacherous waters of our politics,” Wamalwa said.
