Government to Investigate Sharon Otieno's Murder

Government Spokesperson Eric Kiraithe on Wednesday confirmed that the government will carry out investigations of the murder of university student Sharon Otieno.

Through a press release, Kiraithe affirmed that the criminals who carried out what appears to be murder will be brought to book.

"Our attention has been drawn to the reported death of Sharon Otieno, a student at the University of Rongo under circumstances that distinctly point to murder. We take this opportunity to express our sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Sharon Otieno," read the statement.

According to the government spokesperson, the abduction of NTV journalist Barrack Oduor appeared to be a murder attempt on the journalist who was following up on a story.

Kiraithe reassured the media that the government is dedicated to uphold and protect their freedom.

A Homicide squad was been sent to Migori County by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to probe the death of Sharon.

DCI boss George Kinoti stated that no one would be spared during the investigations on what or who caused the death of the university student.

The statement by the government comes after the reported death of the student on Wednesday morning having been abducted on Monday night.

Police discovered a lady's body in Kodera forest and that was later identified as that of Sharon through the help of her father.

Oduor escaped by jumping out of a moving vehicle at Nyangweso market after he managed to free himself from one of the abductors who tried to strangle him.

The journalist and Sharon were allegedly kidnapped after being lured by Migori Governor Okoth Obado's personal assistant Michael Oyamo.

Oyamo was arrested on Tuesday and taken for questioning over the incident that left Oduor seriously injured.

Oduor was later taken to Agakhan hospital by Nation's regional editor after the office was informed of the incident.
