Two MPs Fight Over a Ksh100 Note

Parliament journalists were on Monday left dumbfounded after they witnessed two Members of Parliament (MP) scramble for a Ksh100 note.

The embarrassing incident happened during a committee sitting held at Continental House to discuss rising cases of road accidents in the country.

During the course of the meeting, the note fell to the floor and one MP picked it up only for his colleague to claim it was actually his.

Ooh nimeokota mia, this is good (I’ve picked up a Ksh100 note, this is good),” the first MP was quoted by Nairobi News.

The second lawmaker, however, also lay claim to the note stating it was his money.

Upon realising cameras were still rolling and they could be captured in their scuffle, one legislator gave in and let the incident go.

The committee sitting, chaired by Pokot South MP David Pkosing, had summoned Inspector General of Police (IG) Joseph Boinnet to explain why the country was experiencing numerous road accidents but he did not appear.

Traffic Commandant Samuel Kimaru told the sitting that the IG was attending a National Security Advisory Council meeting instead but the MPs cited contempt by the IG’s absence.

Members of the committee led by Mumias West MP Johnson Naicca demanded that action be taken against Boinnet.

In an end of August report by National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), it was estimated that 183 more people died on top of the earlier reported cases that stood at 1,835 in 2017.
