Close Relationship Between Governor Okoth Obado and Michael Oyamo Unearthed

Reports have revealed that Michael Oyamo, the key suspect in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, was once Migori Governor Okoth Obado's student at St Joseph's Rapogi High School.

Oyamo was described as one of Obado's favourite physics and accounting students.

His former classmates described him as a deeply religious person who once served as an altar boy at a local Catholic church.

According to the Standard, Governor Obado was described as a dedicated teacher who showed no interest in politics.

"Oyamo was my classmate and Obado taught us physics in Form One in 1996. He later taught us accounting in Form Three. Oyamo was one of Obado's best students as he was very good in physics." a former Rapogi High School student was quoted.

Governor Obado worked in several schools before quitting to join the Kenya Sugar Board as a director representing Awendo zone.

This was before he was elected board chairman, a position that set the precedence for him to get into national politics.

Obado and Oyamo come from Uriri sub-county, however, they are alleged to have lost touch until the former was elected governor.

Oyamo joined Obado's campaign team ahead of 2017 elections and using his military experience, he was reported to have supported Obado's security detail before he was hired as the governor's aide.

On Tuesday, police whisked away the Migori Governor from the Nyanza Regional Police headquarters after eight hours of questioning.

Efforts by journalists to speak to the governor failed despite assurances by the Migori County director of communication, Nicholas Anyuor, that Obado would address the press after the process.

Throughout the grilling, the station was heavily guarded, with police keeping at bay the public and journalists who had gathered to try to follow the proceedings. A handful of county staffs spent the day at the station.
