Fire Breaks Out in Lang'ata Area [VIDEO]

A fire broke out in Nairobi's Lang'ata area on Monday night near the Southlands residential area that burnt down earlier in January 2018.

The fire brought down a number of houses in the Kijiji slum area causing a power outage in the Lang'ata area.

Members of the public in the area raised alarm over the fire incident prompting authorities to spring into action.

It is reported that the Nairobi Fire Department responded swiftly and the firefighters were able to manage the fire.

No casualties were reported during the incidents as some of the burnt property of unknown value appeared to be commercial structures.

Kenya Power Company responded to alerts by members of the public and through its official Twitter handle confirmed that power had been restored following the incident.

A number of Kenyans on Twitter, however, raised concerns over the numerous fire incidents that have occurred in the area over the years, suspecting foul play.

One of the commentators @Malkia_Nessa noted: "These fires in Kijiji seem like arson. The second fire in the past couple of months and the place hasn't had fire incidences for the longest time. This is suspicious."

@tommakau further tweeted: "Good response by @county_nairobi fire engines and @KenyaPower in containing the fire at Kijiji in Langata. Well done."
