Lion Kills Donkey, 4 Cows in Kitui County

Residents of Muumoni in Mwingi North, Kitui County revealed details of a stray lion that has been giving them sleepless nights.

The lion is allegedly responsible for the deaths of a donkey, a goat and four cows within the past week.

The residents called for the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to swiftly intervene as their livestock were in danger.

"The lion killed a donkey in Kanyoeni village, four cows in Mukong'a, a goat, and another cow in Kanyungu village," stated Area Ward Administrator David Kyalo.

The lion is suspected to have its den deep in Muumoni Hills.

Paul Lang'at, a KWS Officer in Mwingi, stated that they had laid a trap to catch the lion.

He sought to assure residents of their safety and that of their livestock as well.

A cow in Igembe North, Meru recently made headlines after killing a stray lion.

Residents explained that the lion was strangled to death by the cow which was tethered to a tree by its owner.

KWS, on the other hand, admitted that the lion had killed many goats around Meru National Park but claimed that it could have died due to hunger or exhaustion.
