MP David Ole Sankok Angers ODM MP With Claim That Raila is Behind 8% VAT

Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) David Ole Sankok sparked heated arguments on Wednesday after claiming that the 8% VAT on petroleum products was introduced to help meet Opposition leader Raila Odinga's salary.

In a video that was widely shared on social media, the MP urged citizens to embrace the controversial tax because it would help the government to sponsor the former Prime Minister's trips.

"With all due respect, I urge all Kenyans to accept the 8% tax so that we are able to pay Raila Amollo Odinga's salary.

"You swore him in as the people's president and he came up with the handshake and now we must give him a salary together with his people.

"Even before the handshake, you knew that he was accustomed to attending funerals and now with the handshake, he has graduated into an international mourner and he has to be given allowances to facilitate that," Sankok stated.

He went on to explain that Kenyans passed the Constitution that caused there to be "more legislators than the citizens themselves".

Sankok further insisted that the government's enormous wage bill had to be supported from the citizens' pockets.

Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua responded to the video with a sarcastic tweet: "But what do people smoke sincerely... am missing out!"

Her followers joined in questioning the outrageous comments made by Sankok in the video while defending the ODM party leader.

Here are some of the comments that were shared on the video.
