Uhuru Lands Kenya New Housing Deal During UN Trip

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday witnessed the signing of a deal that will deliver affordable housing units to Kenyans.

The deal financed through the partnership of Kenya and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOS) will provide 100,000 affordable housing units to Kenyans.

“I'm confident my administration will be able to deliver on our housing commitment without putting undue pressure on the exchequer,” read the tweet.

The deal is part of the Big Four agenda set by Uhuru in his second and final term in office.

The President in August travelled to the United States and China with the aim of enhancing trade relations between Kenya and the two countries.

He left the country on Friday last week to attend the United Nations, General Assembly (GA) where he addressed the assembly and held bilateral talks with several countries.

President Uhuru last made a speech in the Assembly in 2015 where he advocated for collaboration in the fight against global terrorism and violent extremism.

The General Assembly(GA) is tasked with making decisions on important questions, such as those on peace and security, admission of new members and budgetary matters and requires a two-thirds majority.

Each country is entitled to one vote where certain member states in arrears of payment may be granted the right to vote.

Joseph Murumbi, was the first Kenyan leader to give a speech at the UN General Assembly when he represented President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta at the 19th session in 1964.
