Former CJ Willy Mutunga Appointed KRA Tax Ambassador

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga was on Monday unveiled as the new Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax ambassador.

The appointment comes as KRA ramps up tax-collection efforts and seals loopholes in a bid to fund President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big  4 Development Agenda.

In his role as an ambassador, Mutunga will be expected to advocate for proper management of public funds and payment of tax as a patriotic duty.

The announcement was made at an event held at KRA's Times Towers headquarters in Nairobi to mark the launch of 'Taxpayers' Month'.

Over the course of the month, KRA seeks to raise awareness on payment of taxes and appreciate hard-working taxpayers through various activities.

Among activities lined up are taxpayer appreciation visits, taxpayer education, a tax summit and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

The events will take place in various locations across the country.

As the month draws to a close, a luncheon ceremony for distinguished tax-payers will be held at Nairobi's Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Wednesday, 31st October.

The 3-day tax summit kicks off on 15th October with tax experts and representatives from several corporations expected to attend.

The Taxpayers’ Month initially started as a one-week event but was eventually extended by the KRA board to run for the entirety of October.
