Kibibi Abdulla Taken Home After 6 Years in Hospital

Kibibi Abdulla, who had been at Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi for six years, was finally taken home to Kileleshwa.

Abdulla was admitted on July 19, 2012, with a condition that needed surgery but developed a complication.

Her mother, Christine Obago, who is also a doctor, filed a complaint to the medical board, citing negligence.

After deliberations, the board found that neither the hospital nor the doctor who attended to her was negligent.

Dissatisfied with the decision, Obago sought the intervention of the Milimani Law Courts - suing the attending physician and the hospital.

The case was dismissed in January 2016 and a decree thereof issued on August the same year.

In a statement sent to Kenyans.co.ke on October 5, 2018, the hospital’s legal office stated that her mother had declined to pick up Kibibi despite numerous calls.

It further explained that Kibibi was taken home to avert potential exposure in case she suffers any personal injury while at the hospital.

The hospital also mentioned her bill of Ksh49 million which had been accrued over the six years that she continued to stay without consent.

"Due to patient confidentiality, the hospital shall not reveal more information on the case as it also seeks to respect the rights of Ms. Kibibi," the statement added.
