Governor Mike Sonko's Mass Promotion of City Hall Staff

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday surprised his members of staff with an edict of immediate promotions.

In a memo seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the governor ordered the County Public Service Board to promote all staff members who were still enlisted on an acting capacity.

The statement went on to instruct the board to ensure that the workers to be promoted had to have worked at City Hall for over 5 years.

"H.E the governor Mike Sonko has written to the County Public Service Board directing promotion of all County Staff who have been on acting capacities for over 5 years," the statement read in part.

The statement went on to outline that the governor's decision had been informed by an impromptu search he conducted.

According to Sonko, a majority of the workers at his office had been working on an acting capacity since the inception of the institution.

"During the recent impromptu visits, H.E the Governor was shocked to learn that most of the county staff have been on acting capacity and they have never been promoted since inception.

"Nevertheless, H.E the governor has issued an executive order of all acting county staff in different sectors to be confirmed and promoted forthwith," the statement read.

Similarly, the governor promised to provide free transport for football fans to the Kasarani stadium on Sunday when the Kenyan national team will be playing against Ethiopia.

The government also announced a waiver of entry fees to the match.
