Fire Engulfs Fuel Storage Facility at JKIA

Operations and other services at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport were affected after a huge fire that engulfed a section of the airport's fuel storage facility.

In a number of photos and videos shared on social media on Monday evening, a huge smoke is seen billowing from the airport.

The JKIA section affected by the fire is a Kenya Pipeline Company Depot where the fuel for the planes is stored.

Here are some of the photos:

The cause of the fire has not been established. KAA general manager security services Brigadier George Kabugi confirmed the incident saying the fire is at the KPC go down but has been contained.

Kabugi held that the fire had not interfered with flights.

JKIA criminal investigations officer Abraham Mugambi has reported that the Monday fire at the KPC depot had been contained and that there were no injuries reported in the incident.

In a similar incident in 2013, a fire caused by an electric fault caused damages approximated at Ksh34 million at JKIA's International Arrivals section.

The incident left more than 492 passengers stranded.
